From Apprentice to Project Lead: A Construction Journey Backed by Blokhaus
Samara’s journey is a testament to the value of the right recruitment partner in the construction industry. She began her career in 2014 as a painter and plasterer with Richards Construction, gaining hands-on experience on-site. In 2025, she transitioned into an office-based construction role that aligned with her Construction Management studies — a move supported by Blokhaus’s trades-focused recruitment expertise.
Samara might be a tiny bit camera shy but she isn’t afraid of hard work.
“I was a little nervous on my first day,” she says. “But the support from the Blokhaus team and the company they placed me with made the transition incredibly smooth.”
What’s kept Samara in the industry is the opportunity to grow. “No two days are the same. Every project is a new challenge. Seeing a build take shape and watching a client’s vision become reality — that’s what drives me.”
As a woman in a traditionally male-dominated industry, Samara acknowledges the challenges but is optimistic. “There are still moments where you feel like you have to prove yourself, but that’s shifting. Social media and companies like Blokhaus are helping to change the narrative. They’re showcasing women in construction roles and making the industry more inclusive.”
After becoming a mother, Samara knew she needed a career path that offered more flexibility while still staying true to her passion for construction. Backed by her qualifications in Business Administration and Project Management — and now pursuing a Diploma in Construction Management — she worked with Blokhaus to find a role that balanced both her career goals and family life.
“It was Blokhaus’s deep industry knowledge and connections that made all the difference. They understood my goals and placed me in a role that worked.”
Her story highlights how specialised construction recruitment and thoughtful career placement can transform a trades career — from on-site to leadership.
