Blokhaus hammers home support for Queenstown wildlife

Chris from Naylor Love and Anna from Whakatipu Wildlife Trust — collaboration at its best!

Protecting the unique native biodiversity of the Queenstown Lakes District is a collective effort, one that the Whakatipu Wildlife Trust (WWT) expertly champions by unifying over 70 local trapping groups. Blokhaus recently dedicated its Queenstown team's labour and time to directly support this regional mission.

Our goal was simple: provide hands-on help to the WWT, which acts as the crucial umbrella organisation connecting community efforts, local government (QLDC), and the Department of Conservation (DOC). These traps are essential tools in allowing species like the kererū and tūī to thrive in a predator-free environment, securing an outstanding natural habitat for future generations.

The Power of Partnership

This successful volunteer day was made possible by the generosity and coordination of key partners:

Materials Donated: We extend our sincere thanks to Chris Frewen from Naylor Love for a phenomenal contribution: supplying all the construction materials completely free of charge.

Logistics and Prep: Blokhaus’s own Queenstown recruiter, Luis Quispe, worked alongside Chris Frewen to handle the initial precision cutting of the timber, streamlining the assembly process for our volunteers.

WWT Leadership: A big thank you to Anna Harding-Shaw, the Executive Officer/Representative of the WWT, who ensured our team’s efforts were focused and maximised to meet their conservation objectives.

Luis, our Otago Recruitment Consultant, back on the tools helping cut wood for the cause.

Join the Front Line of Conservation

Whakatipu Wildlife Trust's immense work—coordinating groups, educating the public, and managing wide-scale projects—requires ongoing support.

To all local businesses, organisations, and community members: This is your opportunity to invest directly in the stunning natural heritage of our region. Every donation and volunteer hour helps the WWT grow its network and secure a predator-free future for the Queenstown Lakes District.

Every trap we assemble becomes a tool in their extensive network, contributing to a safer Aotearoa where native wildlife can thrive. Blokhaus remains committed to giving back to the regions in which we work.

Wrapping up the day with that stunning Queenstown mountain backdrop.
